Sextant sailing course adapted to: PNB, PER, PY, CY AND PPER of Catamarán Marhaba

SEXTANT SAILING COURSE, ADAPTED TO ALL DIPLOMA LEVELS: PNB, PER, PY, CY AND PPER.

For the first time  in the Canary Islands we are organising the PETREL SEXTANT SAILING COURSE in collaboration with the Company NAVEGAR EN CANARIAS, on board their excellent catamaran MARHABA.

This is really a course in Survival at Sea, where the pupils will receive sufficient knowledge to enable them to get back to land, regardless of their qualifications and experience. They will only have a watch, a sextant and a Spanish Nautical Almanac to help them, and will not need to use a calculator.

FRIDAY 07/06/2019: we set sail from the Marina Rubicón at 1000 Hours. We will work on HRB; horizontal, equator and uranographic co-ordinates, description of the sextant and how to adjust it; calculation of the time by observation at dusk. Lunch break. Calculating Latitude by the Polar Height. Practice with the Sextant and obtaining of the Polar Height.

SATURDAY 08/06/2019: calculating Latitude of the boat using the Polar data, obtained the previous day; calculation of Latitude by observing the sun's meridian; calculating the time by the meridian; obtaining of the meridian height. Lunch break. Calculation of Latitude of the boat using the data obtained at midday.

During this training course we will navegate paradisical places such as: Playa del Papagayo, Isla de Lobos, Isla Graciosa. We will also learn “trolling” which is a kind of fishing skill and make a delicious Carpaccio Petrel with our catch.
